Shanghai International Circuit: The Epicenter of World Motorsport in the Heart of China
Located in Jiading District, Shanghai, China, the Shanghai International Circuit is a landmark on the global motorsport map. Opened in 2004, it was the first circuit in China purpose-built to host Formula 1 races. Since its opening, it has hosted the FIA Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix annually. In 2024, the circuit will also host the Shanghai ePrix.
Designed by renowned architect Hermann Tilke, the circuit is a remarkable engineering project. Its 5.3-square-kilometer site includes the main grandstand and pits with unique wing-shaped viewing platforms. The complex can accommodate up to 200,000 spectators, providing a breathtaking view of all the action on the track.
In addition to Formula 1, the Shanghai International Circuit has hosted numerous prestigious world series, including the FIA World Endurance Championship and GT World Challenge Asia. It has also hosted the MotoGP and V8 Supercars championships.
The circuit is not only a sports arena but also a category 4A tourist attraction, offering visitors a variety of opportunities for tourism, shopping, and entertainment. In 2025, the circuit was renovated for the next Chinese Grand Prix.
